The Court of First Instance acquitted a bridegroom and four Kuwaitis, and sentenced two citizens to two-year imprisonment with hard labor for possessing firearms, resisting security operatives and stealing the gun of one of the officers in front of a multipurpose- events hall. According to the case file, an officer of rank “First Lieutenant” noticed traffic congestion at a location in Mubarak Al-Kabeer area. He later realized that the road was blocked by some youths who were busy dancing and merrymaking, so he requested for a reinforcement of security operatives. He thereafter turned on the police light and used alarm while approaching the group of violators. He was surprised when some of the youths attacked him, including the fourth suspect. He then shot towards the sky to scare them away. He was shocked that, instead of scaring them away, other youths including two of the suspects joined them to attack him with a stick and “ogal” (head cord). However, counsel to the third defendant Lawyer Faisal Al-Otaibi stressed that the submissions of the officer were full of inconsistencies. He said the officer did not specify the roles played by the suspects due to which it could be mere assumptions, since he could not say categorically who did what among them.
