Court Acquitted 2 Expats Who Was Accused In Drug Peddling

20 July 2017 Crime News

Penal Section Nine at the Misdemeanor Court acquitted two expatriates of trafficking in 20 kilograms of hashish.

According to the case file, one of the officers who arrested the suspects got a tip off.  He said an informant received a call from one of the suspects who is detained in the Central Prison, instructing the former to get KD 13,000 ready and use it to collect the hashish from someone at Al-Sha’ab seaside. He promised the man that he will double the amount.  Based on the information, he went to the location with some undercover agents, so the officers arrested the suspect when the message was fully delivered.

The same source called the other suspect in prison informing him the deal had been accomplished. The latter instructed the former to deliver a certain quantity of drugs to Al-Sha’ab Area. It was at that point the informant was arrested. The detectives continued with investigations, which led them to the discovery that both suspects owned the drugs.

However, lawyer for one of the suspects, Attorney Bashar Al-Nassar, questioned the investigation and arrest procedures. He argued the detectives set up his client, saying it was not possible for the two suspects who were in jail without a telephone to carry out the deal. He stressed the fact that the phone used for communication belongs to the daughter of the suspect was not enough to prove his client’s guilt.  He pointed out several inmates were using the telephone making over 250 calls on daily basis, so it was like a public phone. He disclosed the informant was an ex-convict who served prison term along with the two suspects and that was how they became friends. He said the statement made by the informant was unjustifiable.
