Police in Kuwait have registered a case of violation of total curfew and exploitation of position against a Sheikh, a brother of an MP and an off-duty officer, local media reported.

The incident occurred when police patrolling in South Surra, at dawn on Tuesday, stopped a person driving his car. When asked why he was driving during curfew hours, he said he was a Sheikh and a member of the ruling family, and that he had goods to deliver to his brother.

On checking the data, it was found that he did not have a permit to drive during curfew. He was referred to the police station, where the Assistant Secretary of Public Security, Major General Faraj Al Zoubi, ordered a probe and registered a case of breaking the curfew against him, a security source said.

The source added in the second incident the CID department referred the brother of a member of the National Assembly to the Al Zahra police station for breaching the curfew, and not carrying any documents. The man told the police he had forgotten his wallet at home, and that he was the brother of an MP.

According to the source, the director general of Hawalli Security was informed of the incident, and he ordered his referral to investigation, and to register a case against him, according to the instructions of the Under-Secretary of the Public Security Sector.

The source said the third incident of breaking the curfew was brought up against an off-duty first lieutenant in one of the security checkpoints in the Capital Governorate. He also insulted the police at the checkpoint.

The source explained that the officer passed a checkpoint wearing civilian clothes and argued with security who asked why he was moving around during curfew time. The off-duty officer answered, “I am an officer and why do you ask?”

He was informed that it was not time for him to be on duty. The police informed the assistant undersecretary for public security, who ordered him to be booked for breaking the curfew, according to the source.
Kuwait enacted a total curfew from May 10 until May 30 to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

It will replace the complete lockdown with a partial curfew as of May 31, Anas Al Saleh, Minister of Interior on Monday.

Al Saleh added the government had decided not to extend the 24-hour nationwide curfew imposed due to coronavirus outbreak after May 30. However, he said, it will be replaced with partial curfew that will be reduced gradually until normal life resumes.

Technical teams are working now to put final touches on plans to return to normal life, the minister added.
