Cooperative Societies Urge The Ministry To Hold Board Elections

08 March 2022 Kuwait

The cooperative societies' boards are still waiting for instructions from the Ministry of Social Affairs to allow the long-awaited board of directors’ elections to take place.

According to cooperative sources who spoke to local Arabic daily, cooperative societies are dissatisfied with the ministry's delay in holding elections because many others have resumed normal activities such as campaigning, allowing delegations to travel abroad, and allowing people to attend social events, while elections to the cooperative board of directors remain suspended for no logical reason.

According to the sources, the cooperatives sector has asked the Ministry of Social Affairs to speed up the process of getting approvals from the Ministry of Health so that elections can be held as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced the finalists for the Abdullah Al-Mutawa Prize for Quran Memorization contest, in which 1,525 teachers, including one from the Grand Mosque, actively participated in the presence of Dr. Muhammad Al-Rashed, Director-General of Islamic Education, and the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

According to a local Arabic daily, this follows the restart of activities after a nearly two-year pause due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Jarallah, the president of the Federation of Charity Societies and Related Organizations, praised everyone who took part in the event, which drew a large crowd. The resumption of activities, according to Al-Jarallah, is "another example of cooperation between people of all ages."

Youssef Al-Sumaei, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors, complimented the community on its return to normal life and activities after a long absence.

Al-Sumaei expressed his desire to continue performing this activity in the coming years with more distinction and success, noting that the competition was launched with a huge audience from both inside and outside Kuwait.
