Consumption Of Electricity And Water May Have Gone Up By 12.4 Pc

Recent statistics suggests that government’s consumption of electricity and water may have gone up by 12.4 percent at a rate of KD 278 million per annum due to the recent raise sanctioned by Law No. 20/2017, reports Al-Qabas daily.

It indicated the consumption rate has reached the aforementioned sum, and it’s clear that government’s current share of electricity and water is 18 and 11 percent respectively.

Statistics added government sector consumes about 8.6 billion kilowatts of electricity annually; noting 15.4 imperial billion gallons of water was used up last year. Water tariff raised to KD 4 per 1,000 imperial gallons instead of the previous 600 fils for government offices and buildings, despite electricity tariff was calculated by 25 fils per kilowatt as approved recently.

The daily quoting a source indicated government could reduce wastage by implementing conservation system in all its buildings to ensure the rate of subsidy is reduced to the minimum level. He said most of the buildings are old, unfriendly to the environment, and consume power in a large quantity. This should have reduced with the advent of smart electricity and water systems.
