Committee Set Up By The Govt To Review The Cost Of Hiring Domestic Workers
The committee set up by the government to review the cost of hiring domestic workers, and study the hindrances facing Al-Durra Company has submitted some recommendations to the Council of Ministers, reports Al- Rai daily.
The recommendations include the need to allow granting licenses to domestic labor recruitment offices. The committee recommended standardizing the prices for hiring domestic workers as a way of resolving the issue of skyrocketing costs of hiring.
;However, the council rejected the committee’s recommendations, because they contradict the criteria of maintaining competitiveness in the labor market.
The committee suggested creating opportunities for hiring domestic workers from other countries that are new in the market instead of relying on the conventional markets. This recommendation is considered a strong one that can enhance competition and reduce the cost of hiring.
;According to an informed source, the ministry is trying to exercise its right to fix the prices in line with stipulations of article 3 of the law No. 10/1979 amended by law No. 116/2012.
However, deliberations in that regard have revealed other vital points that cannot be ignored. Those points include the fact that the cost of hiring workers is connected with the rate of cooperation among local and foreign offices. This has made it practically impossible for the ministry to determine the prices, because it cannot control the external factors.
