Chamber Position On Gradual Taxation Inflames Mp Anger

01 January 2021 Information

Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) released a document entitled, “Our Nation is in Danger,” in which it recommended various economic solutions although this is not part of its duties, says Chairman of parliamentary Financial and Economic Affairs Committee MP Ahmed Al-Hamad.

He pointed out that addressing economic issues is under the jurisdiction of the National Assembly through the ratification of laws which are then implemented by the executive authority. He said the KCCI’s document contains unacceptable recommendations, such as amending the regulations on granting subsidies and imposing tax gradually. In another development, MP Fayez Al-Jomhour called on Minister of Interior Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah to prevent immoral activities as they contravene the religion and traditions of Kuwait.

He revealed that he received a number of complaints from citizens about the immoral parties held in farms and chalets, indicating he tried to communicate with the minister and his undersecretary in this regard but none of them has responded so far. Meanwhile, MPs Fares Al- Otaibi, Osama Al-Menawer, Badr Al-Dahoum, Muhammad Barrak Al-Mutair and Thamer Al-Suwait submitted a bill to amend Law No. 53/2001 concerning the General Investigations Department at the Ministry of Interior.

According to the bill, the department shall consist of a director and his deputies are general attorneys appointed by the interior minister. Other employees at the department will be nominated by the director and then the nominations will be approved by the minister. Promotion will be based on seniority and the indemnity of retirees shall be equal to their salary for two years, while the pension is 80 percent of the last salary.

Supervision
MP Muhammad Hadi Al- Hewaila submitted a bill on establishing a public authority for opinion polls under the supervision of the state minister for cabinet affairs. The public authority shall provide data to the government and Assembly in order to help the decision-makers and lawmakers.

It will consist of a board chairman (state minister for cabinet affairs) and six members representing Kuwait University, Public Authority of Applied Education and Training (PAAET) and Kuwait Research Center.

In addition, MP Abdullah Al- Turaiji pointed out the number of violations in the distribution of agricultural plots is increasing despite the fact that the 2013 Assembly opened a file in this regard.

He intends to follow up the issue and the response of Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Badah Al-Mutairi will determine the extent of his cooperation with the latter. He asked Al-Mutairi about the criteria for the distribution of agricultural plots and number of exceptional cases if any. He also requested for copies of the minutes of the meetings of the committee in charge of distributing plot numbers 30 and 32 in 2017 and 2 and 3 in 2019.

Moreover, MP Fares Al- Otaibi forwarded queries to Minister of Social, Labor, Awqaf and Isamic Affairs Essa Al-Kandari about the number of social aid beneficiaries and number of citizens who deserve rent allowance but are not receiving it. He also submitted queries to Minister of Public Works Dr Rana Al-Fares about the number and values of the contracts for maintaining internal streets in the six governorates from 2016 till date, average accomplishment rate of these contracts, violations if any, and if the ministry imposed penalties on companies proven to have committed violations.
