Capt Studying Possibility Of Limiting Participation Of Companies In Government Tenders

06 December 2021 Kuwait

The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) is studying the possibility of going back to its old ways of allowing only ‘approved categories’ to participate in government tenders.

CAPT sources told Al-Rai the tendency is to allow limited participation in public tenders as was the case in the past, pointing out this trend will prevent unclassified companies from entering the field of competition.

The sources expect this new orientation to be implemented at the beginning of the new fiscal year (April 2022), saying the new decision will push unclassified companies to seek classification, according to the documents submitted by each company should they wish in future to participate in government tenders.

The sources said CAPT, for some time, has been working to update the data of the classified companies based on their financial status.

In a related context, Al Rai has obtained updated statistics for the number and types of classification categories that have been approved by the Classification Committee between November 2020 to October 26, 2021.

The statistics show the committee has categorized 61 applications for building works — 15 for the first category, 4 for the second, 11 for the third and 31 for the fourth category.

With regard to infrastructure works, the committee has approved 7 applications for the first category, 3 for the second category, 3 for the third category, and 15 for the fourth category.

The committee has also approved the classification of 7 applications for mechanical work into the second category, 4 for the third category, and 9 for the fourth category, while it approved the classification of 11 applications for electrical works into the second category, 5 for the third category, and 15 for the fourth category.
