Campaign Against The Spread Of Overgrown Plants In Old Areas - Kuwait Municipality

01 December 2017 Kuwait

Head of the Emergency Team at Capital Municipality Zaid Al-Enezi revealed about a campaign against the spread of overgrown plants in old areas, stressing that such plants have many negative consequences including blocking sight for road users, reports Al-Rai daily.

He said this in Bahwa Diwaniya at Adailiya area where he met a number of citizens prior to removing the agricultural violations including those in the gardens of their houses.

The meeting at the diwaniya was held under the patronage of a former member of the Municipal Council Lawyer Abdullah Al-Kandari with the cooperation of the volunteering team known as “Nahtam” (We Care). He said the emergency team is focused on enforcing the regulations in the new areas and fixing the current situations in the old areas.

Al-Enezi affirmed that blocked streets will be opened and the plants that prevent vision will be removed. He explained that some citizens are afraid the laws will not be enforced on all the violators and the process will be selective.

However, this is not true. Al-Enezi clarified that Kuwait Municipality derives its power from the citizens and is keen on communicating with the public directly before taking any practical steps towards removing the violations. He indicated that some of the violations are very dangerous as they limit the sight for road users, which in turn result in many traffic accidents. “Besides blocking sight for the road users, they are obstacles for fire trucks, municipality trucks and ambulances in reaching the location they aim to reach. Fallen leaves of trees block manholes and the sewer system”, Al-Enezi added.

He affirmed that the commitment of citizens to following Law No. 172/2007 saves millions of dinars that are squandered for cleaning purposes. In addition, a former member of the Municipal Council Dr. Hassan Kamal said the meeting was a good opportunity to inform citizens about the new law of Kuwait Municipality (Law No. 33/2016) as well as to inform them about the proper ways to obtain licenses for their gard
