Chairman of the Complaints and Petitions Committee at the Municipal Council and member of the council Misha’al Al-Hamda’an said the World Bank has recommended the formation of an independent authority which will be tasked to determine all State-owned lands, reports Al-Rai daily.

Speaking to the daily, Al-Hamda’an disclosed the period of determining State lands and transferring papers to the authority ranges from two to three years, indicating the World Bank conducted a study on these lands. He added the World Bank also recommended that all land allocations should be done by the authority while the ministries have the right to use State-owned lands; similar to the practice in neighboring countries such as Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

He revealed World Bank suggested that the authority should consist of members working in governmental bodies. He said the Ministry of Finance has no details about most registered lands, especially those belonging to the Ministry of Defense and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).
