Kuwait’s Non-oil Exports Up 30 Pct Last April : Moci
Kuwait’s non-oil exports rose 30 percent last April, compared with the same time period in 2018, announced the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Saturday. Total exports were about KD 12.3 million (approximately USD 40 million), compared with KD 8.8 million in 2018 (about USD 28.8 million). Arab countries, excluding the GCC states, accounted for KD 5.1 million (about USD 16.7 million) and KD 5.3 million (about USD 17.4 million) for the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s exports to the Gulf countries reached KD 1.9 million (about USD 6.2 million), the ministry said. Iraq came first in Arab countries importing Kuwaiti products, followed by Jordan, Lebanon, Algeria, Yemen, Egypt and Morocco. As for the GCC states, Saudi Arabia came first, followed by Qatar, UAE, Oman and Bahrain.
The ministry added that Italy was the top country in importing Kuwaiti goods, Belgium was second, followed by France, Portugal, Turkey, Bulgaria and Spain. In the meantime, head of cooperative societies union Khalid Al-Hudaiban disclosed that the union is ready to follow and resolve issues of the farmers in coordination with relevant authorities, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Al-Hudaiban said a meeting of the representatives of cooperative societies and farmers held recently discussed demands, among them suggestions to resolve the problem by extending spaces allotted for farmers inside cooperative stores to display and sell their products. He reiterated that cooperative societies and the markets should give priority to national products due to their true value and quality.
