Kuwaiti newspapers report that a Kuwaiti court sentenced a citizen to two months in prison for atheism.

After he was charged with posting two tweets considered blasphemous, the Criminal Court also ordered him to pay a fine of KD10,000, according to Al Anba.

A paper said the first tweet mocked Islamic rituals and faith in God. According to the report, the defendant denied the existence of heaven in his second tweet.

The court explained that man's freedom is limited by religious and ethical norms of society and that freedom is controlled by the individual's actions.

The tribunal went on to add that the defendant's tweet implied an insult to the Divine Entity by disparaging Islam and ridiculing its rites in public.
