Bihar Villagers Inject Acid Into Youth’s Eyes For Falling In Love
Angry villagers in Bihar injected acid into the eyes of a youth for allegedly falling in love with a girl.
The youth, with severe burn injuries in his eyes, has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment as the police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
Police said Sikandar Mandal, 25, a resident of Supaul district, had gone to meet his girlfriend on Sunday evening when local villagers caught him.
He was tied to an electric pole and beaten by bamboo sticks. Even as he begged for mercy, angry villagers took out acid from a rechargeable battery and poured it into both his eyes with the help of a syringe, leaving him badly injured.
Soon after getting the information, the police rushed to the spot and rescued him before admitting him to a local government hospital. “The girl called me to her house after making a phone call but when I reached there some villagers caught me and injected acid into my eyes. Now I can’t see anything clearly and am afraid of losing my vision,” the victim told the police.
According to the villagers, the youth was in a relationship with the girl for several months. He was told to break contact with the girl, but he ignored this.
The police have registered a case against 25 people in connection with the incident. Most of the accused are absconding. “We have arrested one person but the majority of the accused persons have gone underground. We are conducting raids to nab all those behind the incident,” local police official in charge of investigation Nagendra Kumar said.
