Bid To Smuggle 270 Kilos Of Shabu Foiled
The Shuwaikh Customs officers foiled an attempt by two men to smuggle into the country 270 kilos of shabu, into the country, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, when personnel from the General Department for Drugs Control (GDDC) received information that a large quantity of shabu was to be smuggled into the country, the GDDC personnel got a search and arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution and passed on the information to the customs authorities.
When two 20 ft containers arrived at the port carrying table salt packets and the drugs, the customs clearance department cleared the cargo and followed it until it reached its destination, where the two importers were taken into custody and the cargo was thoroughly checked.
The daily quoting security sources said shabu was neatly packed among the packets of salt which was difficult to identify as the two materials (salt and shabu) look similar in shape and color. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al- Saleh, accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant General Issam Salem Al-Naham, were at the scene to get first hand information of the attempt to smuggle the narcotic substance into the country through the port of Shuwaikh.
The minister thanked the General Administration of Customs for its tireless and continuous cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior to arrest drug pushers who attempt to smuggle this ‘poison’ into the country using different means through air, land and sea ports. Earlier a security source had told the daily the antinarcotics officers had seized the biggest quantity of “shabu” in the history of Kuwait at the Port of Shuwaikh which arrived in two containers allegedly from Iran.
