Barber Shops Respect Decision, But Fear Burden Of Paying Rent
The barber shops in Kuwait witnessed unexpected queues in front of their shops since Saturday and expected the queues to become bigger Sunday, following a decision by the Council of Ministers and the health authorities to shut down some businesses and limit the work of others from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am as the country struggles to contain the spread of Covid-19 variant.
Following this decision a number of owners of barber shops have demanded that the real estate owners let go of the monthly rent during the suspension period, saying they will not be able to earn any money during the closure period. Speaking to the Al- Seyassah daily, the shop owners say they fully adhere to the decisions taken by the concerned authorities from time to time to prevent the spread of the virus.
Respects
One of the visitors to the barber shop said he respects the decision of the health authorities, which has become a nightmare and continues to threaten the lives without exception and said the closure of shops is an opportunity for the government to arrange what he called ‘some conditions’.
He believe the state always looks from a different perspective from the public, since it is concerned in the first place to protect everyone who resides on its land, including citizens and residents, especially since ordinary people by nature are governed by their whims. Another customer indicated he wanted to beat the deadline and get a haircut although it was not time for him to get one.
Another customer, who identified himself as A.R., said the decision will be in the interest of protecting the citizen and resident from the coronavirus, especially since the cases have increased recently.
Arif Hussain, owner of a barber shop, said he will comply with the decision to shut down his shop and prayed the real estate owner will exempt him from paying the rent. However, the owner of a barber shop who identified himself, as A.M., called the decision surprising, but in all cases human health is much more important than anything else, especially since Kuwait fears for its citizens and all those who reside on its land from especially since in recent days the cases have been increasing, however, he said he fears the worst of paying 350 dinars a month if there is no income.
