Bangladeshi Military Medics Support Kuwait Against Covid-19

A medical team from the Bangladeshi army has arrived in Kuwait to support the Gulf country’s efforts against COVID-19, a Bangladeshi envoy has disclosed without details.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Kuwait Md Ashikuzzaman added that both countries have maintained long-standing links, including military cooperation.

Addressing a ceremony marking the 49th anniversary of the Bangladeshi army, Ashikuzzaman said that Bangladesh was among the countries that had contributed troops to a US-led multinational coalition that liberated Kuwait from Saddam Hussein’s 1990 occupation, Al Rai newspaper has reported.

Thirteen Bangladeshi soldiers were killed over the period from 1991 to 1993 during a demining process in Kuwait that followed the eviction of Saddam’s forces, added the ambassador.

The ceremony held in the Bangladeshi embassy was limited to the staff due to concerns over the spread of the new coronavirus.

There are around 350,00 Bangladeshis in Kuwait.
