Bangladeshi Jailed For Accepting Bribes To Complete Renewal Of Vehicle License

The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Salah Al-Houti, upheld the verdict issued by a lower court which acquitted a Kuwaiti woman working in the Ministry of Interior, and sentenced a Bangladeshi expatriate known as “Saddam Hussein” to three-year imprisonment with hard labor on bribery charges, says Al-Seyassah. The Public Prosecution accused the first defendant, who is an employee of Ahmadi Traffic Department, of demanding and accepting “gifts” ranging from KD 5 to KD 10 from people for completing the renewal of vehicle road licenses. This second defendant was accused of facilitating this process and mediating in the crime of bribery and demand for gifts under the claim that he works for the Ministry of Interior.

Investigations revealed that the Bangladeshi suspect received more than KD 30,000 prior to his arrest and had transferred about KD 15,000 of this amount to his country.
