16 May 2022 Kuwait

Auditors have warned of a repeat of the Mubarakiya market fire scenario in the Braieh Salem project, especially since no fines were imposed on the maintenance company for failure to comply with the security, safety, and firefighting requirements.

According to the Bureau's report for 2020/2021, when the agency visited the Mubarakiya market, Shuwaikh Beach, and Braieh Salem, the company did not follow the required safety and security procedures. There were also issues with firefighting in Braieh Salem.

The municipality failed to impose a fine of 20 dinars per day from the date of the commencement of work on May 11, 2019 until the date of the field visit, as specified in clause (20/2) of the document, which stipulates the application of a fine for failing to observe security and safety conditions in accordance with the requirements of the administration.
