Astronomical Hike In Prices Of Goods In The Country Negatively Affected The School Building Projects

The spate of astronomical hike in prices of goods in the country has negatively affected the school building projects in new residential areas, reports Al-Rai daily.

Assistant Undersecr-etary for Educational Facilities and Planning at the Ministry of Education Dr Khalid Al-Rushaid stated the cost of building a kindergarten has increased by KD 1.5 million and an elementary school KD 2.8 million, while the cost of an intermediate school went up by KD 5 million. He also said building a secondary school will gulp an excess of KD 6.4 million.

And, Ministry of Education will take delivery of 56 new schools from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare at different times until Oct 31, 2018 when the last one will be delivered, he explained.

He noted the schools are scattered at various locations in different governorates, indicating 37 of the schools are in Sabah Al-Ahmad City, 17 in Jaber Al-Ahmad and 2 schools in Jahra Educational Area. He said some schools have since been handed over and maintenance activities transferred to the Ministry of Education.
