05 December 2017 Kuwait

Former National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Sa’adoun insists that a proposal for the issuance of comprehensive amnesty has become a must, and this is the responsibility of MPs, reports Al-Rai daily.

During a press conference held recently in the presence of a number of former MPs and the families of the convicted youth, Al- Sa’adoun explained that the Court of Cassation can be requested to allow temporary release of the convicted, cancel the execution of sentences that were issued against them and later acquit them.

“However, this is not enough,” he added. He stressed the need for integrated amnesty, pointing out the fact that a number of the convicted individuals have received final sentences in different lawsuits.

Al-Sa’adoun criticized a number of MPs who promised to confront bad laws that were passed by the previous Parliament but did not fulfill their promises. He lamented the lack of political figures in the political arena, insisting that rights need voices in order to be defended and obtained.

Al-Sa’adoun said the current Parliament and all political blocs lack vision, indicating that some parties maintain silence about corruption and later seek alliance with the corrupt.
