Appointment Violations Must Be Ended In The Cooperative Sector
They appreciated the recent decisions made by the Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of Social Affairs Fahd Al-Shariaan regarding work in this regard, foremost of which are the controls for appointing members to the boards of directors, and stated that the cooperative societies sector will experience in the coming period what they described as an unprecedented phase to correct its course and put it on the real development track.
The cooperative sector in Kuwait is one of the most successful businesses, according to knowledgeable sources, who also underlined the need to update the system to keep up with changes in the industry and allow cooperatives to offer the best services to consumers.
According to the sources, Minister Al-Shariaan has established a committee to investigate violations that this industry experienced during the previous period, including leadership appointments in numerous outlets, associations, and their branches, which put the majority of these outlets out of competition with supermarkets in terms of sales or contributions to community service and sustainable development. He described these violations as "disastrous."
The sources continued, "Many of these outlets have moved outside the purview of governance, which is supposed to oversee their operations and choose their officials, and as a result, the main challenge is to select leaders who can foster and realise citizen aspirations in management, marketing, procurement, development, and other areas."
