Apply All Health Requirements To Avoid Covid-19 Second Wave, Says Government
Tareq Al Mezrem, the governmental spokesman, has warned all citizens and residents to follow the coronavirus health procedures, pointing out that the virus is still spreading.
Al Mezrem said that, “the whole world is talking about a possible second wave so it is very important to apply all health requirements.”
He also pointed out that the Ministry of Interior has cracked down on several violators, who were not following the health requirements, mainly holding large gatherings.
The number of people that have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has spiked in the last few days, as within a course of 48 hours 15 people were admitted to the ICU.
Last week, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad, announced that there has been an 8 per cent increase in the occupancy rate of wards for COVID-19 patients and an 11 per cent increase in intensive care patients, compared to last month.
On Sunday, Kuwait recorded 548 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 111,116. The percentage of confirmed cases to number of tests sits at 20 per cent, an increase from the average of 13 per cent last month.
Full lockdown
The Minister of Health, Dr. Basel Al Sabah, denied that a lockdown will be imposed after rumours circulated on social media that the government will likely announce a partial or full lockdown.
From March 22 to August 30, Kuwait was under some form of curfew, both partial and complete, making it the longest consecutive lockdown in the world, as it lasted for 161 days. The nationwide full lockdown took place between May 10 and May 30.
After the nationwide lockdown, the government introduced a five-phase plan as a way to ease the country back to normal life. The phases were to ensure a gradual return of employees to the office, safe reopening of businesses and cautious reoperation of public transportation.
Kuwait is still in phase-four as the government has announced that it will not move onto phase five until further notice, which will allow for large gatherings and the reopening of cinemas.
