Amount Of Debts Owed By Individuals And Companies To The Mpw Works Is Estimated At Kd 27mln
The Audit Bureau (AB) said the amount of debts owed by individuals and companies to the Ministry of Public Works is estimated at 27 million dinars, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The bureau said the ministry has failed to collect this money although some of it dates back to 1990. In a letter addressed to the ministry, the Bureau criticized the lack of measures taken to collect these debts, including about 7.2 million dinars listed within the local current assets account under collection.
The bureau said part of the debts is owed by employees who have resigned from the ministry between 2000 and 2010 while the other part is owed to the ministry by companies, and that some of those amounts owed by companies dates back to the fiscal year 1989-1990 and beyond.
The ministry pointed out some of the contractors has not given account of some advance payments made to them which total more than 2.9 million dinars, in violation of the terms of the contracts, due to the cessation of some of those projects or the existence of judicial disputes, which led to those amounts being not settled.
The financial statement attached to the Bureau pointed out that the amount can be traced back to the period between 2008 and 2014, and called for the need to take necessary measures in this regard, especially for the projects that have been completed and taking into account the demand to extend their guarantees in case of expiry of those guarantees until collection.
