His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has sent a cable of congratulations to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the success of his country’s first Shura Council elections. Sheikh Nawaf praised the participation of the Qatari people in the voting process, wishing Qatar’s leadership and people more welfare and success.

Qatar’s Election Commission announced that 30 male candidates have won all the 30 contested seats in the country’s first Shura Council election. In a press conference late Saturday, the commission chief Majed Al-Khalifa described the turnout as high, estimating it at 63.5 percent. Earlier, voters flocked to polling stations to cast their ballots amid strict health measures due to the coronavirus pandemic. A total 234 candidates, including 30 women, ran for 30 seats of the advisory Shura Council, while the Amir of Qatar will name the remaining 15 members of the council.
