Amghara Pose New Danger To Environment

10 November 2021 Kuwait

The Amghara scrap yard is turning out to be another hazard to the environment as dozens of old tires continue to be dumped on a daily basis, a problem that may be difficult to solve in the long run.

The Al-Rai daily quoting sources said this practice will not only pollute the environment but pose a danger to camps in the area and if not solved in its infancy may lead to a catastrophe.

To add insult to injury those in charge of the scrap yard discard all sorts of leftovers and different types and sizes of tires. Old cars are the main fuel for this danger, which is still in its infancy, as some of those in charge of scrap yards throw different types, sizes and shapes of tires, while some of them burn them in an attempt to obliterate one crime with another.

The Environment Public Authority had transferred more than 42 million tires that had accumulated since 2004 in the Erhiya, in the proximity of South Saad Al-Abdullah Housing Project to Al-Salmi after it was officially commissioned by the Council of Ministers to do so and within 6 months, the authority succeeded transferring 507 tons of tires from Erhiya to Salmi with the help of government and private agencies.
