Al-kandari Shed Lights Kuwait's Use Of Technology To Streamline Parl't Action

Secretary General of the Kuwaiti National Assembly Allam Al-Kandari has briefed secretaries of Arab and European parliaments about Kuwait's tapping of latest technology to facilitate parliamentary work.

In a statement on the sidelines of his participation in the conference of secretaries of Arab and European parliaments in Beirut, Al-Kandari told KUNA that he presented to the conference a working paper about employing the state-of-the-art technology to upgrade parliamentary work in Kuwait.

He pointed out that the Kuwaiti parliament use new technology to carry out and count secret and public voting tools.

It had a web portal to allow ordinary people to send their suggestions and draft laws to the lawmakers and parliamentary committees, he told KUNA.

Al-Kandari stated that the secretary has recently launched a totally revamped website of the National Assembly featuring database of current and former members of parliament and parliamentary committees; parliament and lawmakers news; the recent studies and publications of the National Assembly's General Secretariat; the parliament and lawmakers' statements and press releases.

He informed the conferees about the National Assembly's the electronic systems for submitting interpellations, screening of the relevant constitutional articles and parliament's bylaws, the random sorting of speakers during sessions, quorum counting and for writing down lawmakers speeches.

He concluded that the conference was an opportunity to exchange experiences among the Arab and European parliaments to streamline lawmaking process.

The conference, the first of its kind, kicked off in Beirut earlier today with the participation of representatives of 11 Arab and European countries, including Kuwait.

The two-day conference will discuss the role of parliament secretariats in facilitating lawmakers work, enhancing the effectiveness of parliaments, strengthening cooperation between parliaments and civil society organizations, and the use of latest technology in parliamentary action.
