18 November 2015 General

Here's the first dramatic teaser of Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift, touted to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller based on the biggest ever human evacuation mission in the world that took place in Kuwait in August 1990. The film chronicles the events unfolded during the then VP Singh-led Indian government's mission of evacuating more than 1,70,000 Indians stranded in Kuwait following Saddam Hussein-led Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.

Over a period of 59 days, the Indian government sent 488 Air India commercial flights into the war torn Kuwait and rescued all the Indians safely back to their homeland. Airlift narrates the story of how Ranjit Katyal, a powerful Indian-origin Kuwaiti businessman helped the Indian migrants on their thousands of miles journey to a safe zone from Kuwait to Amman, Jordan.

Airlift has Akshay Kumar playing Ranjit Katyal and Nimrat Kaur playing his wife. The film is directed by Raja Menon and produced by Bhushan Kumar. The makers will be releasing the film on 22nd January as a Republic Day special. Get ready for an adrenaline filled patriotic fervor this January.
