Air Pollution Rate Witnesses Significant Decline In Kuwait
In a positive environmental development, the air pollution rate in various parts of Kuwait witnessed a significant decline last week, according to data issued by the IQAir Index, which publishes daily updates on air quality levels in cities around the world, reports Al-Rai daily. About one week ago, the level of pollution in the air in Kuwait City was 152 standard points, which led to its ranking in the index on 13th place in the list of the worst polluted cities in the world. However, the good news is that the figures of this week indicate that level had fallen significantly by 88 points, due to which Kuwait was ranked 30th place in the world, which is a relatively better position than what it was one week ago. There was also improvement in the air quality indicators in other regions of Kuwait.
This improvement led to a decrease in the general rate of air pollution in Kuwait to 80 points from an average of 140 points over the past two weeks. According to the forecasts as of Tuesday, November 23, the levels in some areas of Kuwait were as follows:- Hawally – 91, Rabia – 100, Bayan – 85, Sabah Al-Salem – 71, Dasma – 70, and Rumaithiya – 65. With this improvement in the overall average of air in Kuwait, the country has been placed in 41st place globally, moving from the “unhealthy” category to the “moderate” category. This includes countries where the level of air quality is acceptable, but contains some micro pollutants that may harm the health of people who have certain sensitivities to these pollutants.
The countries that currently occupy the top ten places in the world in terms of air pollution rates are: – India with 659 standard points, Mongolia, China, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. As for the top ten most polluted cities globally, they are: – Pakistan’s Lahore, Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek, India’s Delhi, South Korea’s Incheon, India’s Calcutta, Bangladesh’s Dhaka, China’s Wuhan, China’s Shenyang, Bosnia’s Sarajevo and Pakistan’s Karachi.
