Activist Advocates For Women Rights, Gender Equality
A training course on “Leadership Skills and Strategic Communication” was organized by a group of elite Kuwaiti women on October 22- 25 as part of the project to support Kuwait in executing the fifth sustainable development goal 2018 concerning women empowerment and gender equality.
According to a press release, Kuwaiti businesswoman and political and social activist Zahra Sulaiman Al-Mousawi declared in a press conference that the rights of women have been usurped in Kuwait one way or another. She said article 29 of the Kuwaiti Constitution stipulates that all Kuwaitis are equal in rights and responsibilities regardless of differences in gender, origin, language and religion.
Al-Mousawi stressed that she hopes His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will assist women, as he has always been an advocate of women rights and has described them as the real pillars. She urged His Highness the Amir to help them restore their rights as well as establish an independent authority that will specialize in gender equality and women empowerment politically, economically and socially.
Al-Mousawi expressed displeasure about the fact that Kuwaiti women occupy only 12 percent of leadership positions, which is relatively small compared to neighboring states. She reminded that the percentage of women in the country is two times more than that of men due to which fairness and equality in the society is a must.
