Expats Standing In Quee For Long Hours In Hot Sun
Overcrowding and long lines do not go hand in hand with the period of e-government, even if the government talks about the digital transformation of its facilities and organizations. This is the most prominent of the revelations made by Al-Qabas daily during its tour of the Expatriate Labor Center in Shuwaikh, where hundreds of workers must wait in long lines for their turn to enter the center for medical testing and to add insult to injury, they must wait for long periods of time in the scorching heat of the sun while fasting.
Despite the return to normal and the resumption of regular duty hours in government institutions and departments following the dip in Corona infections, there are still certain departments that have not returned to full duty hours.
The Examination Center for Expatriate Workers in Shuwaikh continues to suffer, and many expatriates are forced to arrive before the start of official working hours just to ensure they get in line to complete their transactions, which is a source of fatigue not only for visitors and employees alike during Ramadan, and the delay in conducting medical examinations or receiving results has serious consequences for the company or the sponsor, especially if the company or sponsor is a non-profit organization. According to a health source, more than 1,200 people have been assigned to work in four centers to evaluate expatriate employees, but this number is insufficient, and the problem may be partially rectified by establishing another center in the country.
The daily observed the work environment at the center, and a number of expatriates stated that, despite the heat and fasting, they are racing against time to be at the center early. They argued that after reducing the limits established during the Covid-19 outbreak, everything in health departments should have improved and moved quicker, not the other way around. According to visitors, there is a large throng in the mornings, especially because the bulk of them are domestic workers or those who have come on a family visa, as well as the failure to complete transactions quickly on the same day, and for numerous other reasons.
