A Woman From Kuwait Helped A Homeless Man Eating Coconut Shells On A Street Of Mumbai Kuwait
More than one million people in our country are homeless and live on railway platforms, roadsides, and under the flyovers. The moment our vehicle halts at the Red light, we see a lot of people begging, some others sitting on the roadside, staring at the passersby. Not often do we go and talk to them.
But this gesture shown by a good Samaritan Shaheen Sayeed is something we all need to be inspired by. Shaheen, a lady from Kuwait, was in Mumbai for a while. Her daughter and she were travelling in an auto from Malad to Meera Road when her auto stopped at Simkoli Signal in Borivali (West), Mumbai. She saw a homeless man in dirty clothes, in dishevelled condition eating coconut shells. Disturbed by the sight, she couldn’t sleep the whole night and the very next day searched on the internet to find rehabilitation facilities for homeless.
She got contact details of a person who advised her to call 108 and report.
Without any delay, she called up 108 and gave all the information. In no time, a doctor was asked to meet the person. Due to some personal errands, Shaheen reached late, and the doctor left. Finally, Shaheen with the help of her son called an ambulance and the police who took the man to Shatabdi Municipal Hospital in Kandivali where doctors are now treating him. It is being suspected that the person is also mentally disturbed so once the conditions of the man are stable, he will be taken for legal proceedings and be checked if any rehabilitation is necessary.
Shaheen keeps visiting him on a regular basis. Here is what Shaheen posted:
What can you do if you see a homeless person with a mental or unhealthy condition:
If you see any homeless Man/Women on the street of Mumbai, India please instead of giving them some money or food give a call to 108 for medical assistance.
I saw a homeless man on the street of Simkoli signal in Borivali (west) Mumbai. He was weak, almost naked and eating coconut shells. I wanted to help, so I reached home and googled, “what can I do to help the homeless in Mumbai”. The search result showed up Abhishek Bharadwaj who suggested me to call 108, for assistance I gave them a call. I couldn’t reach on time as I live far away from Borivali. The ambulance reached with Dr Shikha, at the site and informed me they couldn’t find him. Getting into an argument with Dr Shikha, I was broken, but with the support of my son Sahil Sayed We reached the place and did the needful again. We called 108 again, and an ambulance arrived after waiting for hours. We then called 100 for police assistance. We took him to the nearest hospital(Shatabdi Municipal Hospital) in Kandivali( West) He is now admitted to the hospital for treatment, and his condition now is stable.
I thanks, Dr Abdul Latif, Constable JB Rana and Amit Parab of Borivali West Police station for helping me and the poor man.
