882,000 People Get Vaccine In Kuwait
Around 822,000 Kuwaiti citizens and foreign residents have received the vaccine against COVID-19 as the country has sped up an inoculation campaign to limit the spread of the highly contagious ailment, Kuwaiti media reported.
The figure accounts for 20 per cent of the Gulf country’s population, they added without providing a breakdrown. Kuwait aims to vaccinate 2 million people by the end of the current Muslim month of Ramadan.
Kuwait has recently launched mobile vaccination units targeting workers in mosques and in different commercial activities having direct contacts with the general public.
New batch
A new batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is due to be delivered to Kuwait later Sunday. The shipment, the 13th of the vaccine to the country, will be flown from Brussels and transported to the Kuwait Vaccination Centre.
The Gulf country of 4.7 million population kicked off vaccinations against COVID-19 in December. Despite the inoculation campaign and the stringent virus-related restrictions, an uptick in infections has been seen in the country.
Kuwait so far has registered a total of 255,860 coronavirus cases and 1,440 fatalities.
