750-kg Expired Items Seized
The Public Relations and Media Department of Kuwait Municipality announced that the emergency team of Capital Municipality raided a food store in Al-Rai area after which it confiscated and destroyed 750 kgs of expired and spoiled foodstuffs that are unfit for human consumption, and closed down the store, reports Al-Seyassah daily. This campaign follows the media campaign that was recently announced concerning the launch of inspection campaigns targeting foodstuff and wholesale stores, restaurants and food companies in readiness for the holy month of Ramadan. The campaign was supervised by the Head of the Capital Municipality’s emergency team Zaid Al-Enzi and the food inspector Hassan Saleh. Al-Enzi revealed that the confiscated foodstuffs included 562 packs of cheese, each weighing 12 kgs. He indicated that seven citations were issued for various violations including storage of expired goods and spoiled foodstuffs, and violation of hygiene regulations. Al-Enzi urged owners of foodstuff stores to follow the regulations of Kuwait Municipality in order to avoid being held legally accountable, stressing that the inspectors will apply the law firmly against all violators. The Public Relations and Media Department of Kuwait Municipality called on all citizens and expatriates to call the hotline number 1844448 or contact Kuwait Municipality via its social media account “@kuwmun” to report any complaints, affirming that necessary legal actions will be taken immediately.
