‘70 % Get Jabs, Herd Immunity Met’

MP Osama Al-Shaheen submitted a proposal to allow cooperative societies, public benefit associations and sports clubs to hold their general assemblies, considering the Health Ministry has vaccinated more than 70 percent of the targeted population against Covid-19 – a requirement for achieving herd immunity. Al-Shaheen also stressed the importance of strict compliance with health regulations for the safety of everyone.

On the other hand, MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji praised the recent meeting of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid with the senior officials. He urged HH the Prime Minister to closely follow up the implementation of his directives, dismiss senior officials proven to have failed in their tasks, and punish whoever is proven to be involved in the misappropriation of public funds.

Lawmaker The lawmaker then called on the senior officials to do their best in order to succeed in their endeavors, urging them to learn from the experience of some neighboring countries which implemented vital development projects and triumphed over the negative consequences of Covid-19. He said some senior officials have adopted a wrong attitude, thinking they will not be punished.

Meanwhile, MP Hesham Al-Saleh submitted a bill on amending Penal Code number 16/1960 to impose harsher penalties on those convicted of involuntary manslaughter – unintentional killing that results from criminal negligence, recklessness or committing an offense like driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Article One of the bill stipulates four years imprisonment and KD5,000 fine or any of the two penalties on anyone convicted of involuntary manslaughter. If a person commits a serious violation of regulations on the performance of his job and his act causes the death of another; the penalties include imprisonment ranging from one to six years and KD10,000 fine or maximum 10 years imprisonment if the act results in the death of more than one individual.

Furthermore, Al-Saleh forwarded queries to Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Essa Al-Kandari about the requirements for the establishment of Shiite mosques. He asked the minister to clarify the requirement to obtain approval of the neighbors prior to the establishment of Shiite mosques, steps taken if the neighbors are divided on the establishment of such mosques, and if the individual or entity that submits a request to establish the mosque is required to present a document proving the neighbors’ approval or if this task is carried out by the ministry and Kuwait Municipality.
