7 Year Jail Penalty Upheld By Court Against Police Officer Who Demanded Bribes

15 October 2020 Information

Kuwait’s Court of Cassation has upheld a seven-year imprisonment against a police officer on charges of taking bribes, local media reported.

The court upheld the Appeal Court’s ruling after it found the Kuwaiti policeman, who works at the Criminal Investigation Department, guilty as charged earlier by the Criminal court. The court also fined him 800 Kuwaiti dinars.

The convict has been found guilty of demanding a bribe of 200 Kuwaiti dinar each from three expat men in exchange for not taking legal measures against them.

The convicted police officer acted as he was arresting the victims for violating law and showed them his police ID. The convict then forced them into his car, pretending he was taking them to the police station for investigation. As the victims refused to give the convict the bribe he asked for, he then stole their money and two mobile phones after beating them.
