684 Schools Ready For Reopening
Minister of Education Dr Ali Al- Mudhaf has affirmed the readiness of 684 schools in three educational stages for the reopening of schools in September, reports Al-Jarida daily. In response to the query of MP Abdulaziz Al-Saqabi, the minister disclosed that the total capacity of these schools is 380,000 and the number of registered students reached 377,069; so the number of students in each class will be limited to 25 to ensure compliance with the precautionary measures aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus. He added the total number of students in 202 kindergartens reached 41,006; hence, there are only 20 students in each class. He explained the opening of schools is scheduled with an interval of one week between the educational levels.
He revealed that classes for kindergartens, first and second grades will start on Sept 19; while the rest of the primary grades will start the following day. He added the intermediate level classes will start on Sept 26 and Oct 3 for secondary level; indicating the teachers will report for work on Sept 12. He confirmed an action plan has been laid down to ensure the safety of everyone, in coordination with the ministries of Health and Interior. He said the health guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Health have been distributed to all schools, which include ways to deal with corona cases in schools. He stressed no school will be allowed to open unless they meet all the conditions. He went on to say that the plan includes the allocation of two public schools in each educational district to serve as headquarters for those without the equipment required for distance learning.
