Chairman of the Auction Committee at the General Administration of Customs (GAD) Ali Al-Enezi said the GCD last week held an auction at the Bait Al-Mal in Sulaibiya during which 5,720 cartons of cigarettes were sold worth KD 36,500, reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Enezi pointed out the auction was organized in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the customs policy for the sale of goods. The date and place of the auction were announced through the Official Gazette (Kuwait Alyawm) and the official website of customs and social media to allow the largest number of participants. Al-Enezi affirmed the keenness of the Auction Committee to evaluate the price of the goods in an approximate manner before organizing the auction in order to preserve the public money.

On the other hand, customs officers at the Al-Nuwaiseeb border post have seized a large amount of cigarettes from an unidentified Gulf citizen who tried to smuggle the contraband hiding in his car. The cigarettes have been referred the Land Customs Department.
