21 July 2016 Crime News

The Kuwaiti authorities have confiscated a total of 51 wild animals over the past six months.

The Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources referred the confiscated species and kept them at the animal reserve park.

The list included 24 falcons, 4 live alligators, 7 mummified alligators, heads and skins of alligators, one hyena, 4 monkeys, 5 snakes and one dog just to cite these.

Animal Resources deputy director-general Youssef Al-Najim, said that importing wild animals, reptiles and snakes is forbidden under law 790 for 2012, urging instead to purchase domestic animals as they do not represent any danger to their owners.

Kuwait is also a member of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) - an international agreement between governments which aims to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
