50% Drop In Sales Of School Supplies And Stationery

20 September 2020 Education

With the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis changing the various aspects of life in most countries around the world, the field of education also has its share. The new academic year has come in a new way with the authorities responsible for education in many countries, including Kuwait, adopting the distance learning system in order to preserve the safety of students as the pandemic continues, reports Al-Anba daily.

Every year at this time right before the schools open their doors to receive students for the new academic year, it is customary for sales to be high in book shops and stores that sell school supplies such as notebooks, pens, bags, etc. However, the situation is somewhat different this year with the application of distance learning, as the reliance on traditional stationery has reduced, and almost everything is done electronically.

During a tour of a number of shops that sell school supplies and stationery and after meeting a number of stationary shop owners, officials, and a group of citizens and expatriates, it was noticed that there is a significant drop of almost 50 percent in the sales movement.

The stationary workers affirmed that the turnout is not like the previous years, as the demand for buying regular notebooks and drawing books has reduced.

Nevertheless, they said the book shops are readily equipped with all of the students’ needs at the present time, and in the event that schools resume like normal.

Also, some citizens and expatriates expressed their viewpoints about online learning and its impact on the psychological and financial aspects, as well as whether the burdens on them have increased or decreased either financially or in their commitment to sitting with their children, especially those who are very young.
