4.9-magnitude Earthquake Strikes Kayseri In Turkey

The Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management Presidency said today, Tuesday, that an earthquake measuring 4.9 was recorded on the Richter scale in the central Turkish province of Kayseri in the Sari Ocalan district, with a depth of 23.75 km above sea level.

The Turkish Anadolu Agency quoted the mayor of Sari Ocalan as saying that the earthquake did not result in loss of life and property, pointing to the appearance of cracks in the walls of some buildings and damage to a number of animal pens.

For his part, the director of agency in Kayseri confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the earthquake, pointing out that two people were taken to hospital for treatment of fear of the earthquake.

Turkey lies on an earthquake belt and more than 20,000 people were killed in the strongest earthquake that hit the northwest of the country in 1999.
