400 Mgrp Workers Sign Petition To Suspend Merger With Pam

18 May 2018 Kuwait

400 workers at the Manpower and Government Restructuring Program (MGRP) have signed on a petition to the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers seeking the suspension of what they called ‘haphazard merger’ happening with the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), reports Al-Qabas daily.

In a statement, the workers said four undersecretaries from the Public Authority for Manpower made an appearance in the course of a meeting with the senior officials of MGRP, which led to an interactive session among those in attendance. They seized the opportunity to pass a message across, saying they do not accept the merger. PAM officials responded they had no authority to decide on that, it said.

As regards statements from Civil Service Commission concerning positive aspects of the merger, they said MGRP has actually executed three of those aspects. The ones executed included the step taken to increase the number of Kuwaiti workers in private sector between 2001 and 2014, with a minor decline from that point in time until 2018.

The decline was due to strictness of MGRP in specialization to the point that workers in private sector had to obtain work permit and renew it each year in the absence of security for Kuwaitis who lost their jobs in private sector since the concerned authority did not wade into labor disputes.
