38,795 Citations Issued In Security Crackdown

The General Traffic Department in the Interior Ministry conducted surprise traffic campaigns in the six governorates from Nov 6-12, 2016. In a press statement, the department disclosed these campaigns resulted in the issuance of 38,795 citations, impounding of 1,233 vehicles and 101 motorbikes, arrest of 33 individuals and referral of 42 youths to the Juvenile Detention Center.

In the Capital Governorate, a total of 9,380 citations were issued, 622 vehicles were impounded, one person was arrested and six youths were referred to the concerned authority. In Farwaniya Governorate, a total of 5,741 citations were issued in addition to impounding of 187 vehicles and arrest of six people. In Hawally Governorate, the number of citations issued totaled 6,662 while 36 vehicles were impounded, three persons were arrested, seven youths were referred to the concerned authority, one person was referred to the Deportation Center and six people were arrested as they are wanted by law for involvement in various crimes.

In Ahmadi Governorate, 6,153 citations were issued, 129 vehicles were impounded, three persons were arrested, five expatriates were referred for deportation, 16 juveniles were referred to the concerned authority and one person was arrested as he is wanted by law for involvement in an undisclosed crime. In Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, 2,501 citations were issued, 92 vehicles were impounded, three persons were arrested and one juvenile was referred to the concerned authority. In Jahra Governorate, 5,358 citations were issued, 68 vehicles were impounded, seven persons were arrested and two youths were referred to the concerned authority.

Meanwhile, the Operations Unit issued 3,000 citations, impounded 98 vehicles and 101 motorbikes, confiscated 17 vehicles used in committing various crimes, 13 persons were arrested, 10 juveniles were referred to the concerned authority and one expatriate was referred to the Deportation Center
