363 Expatriates Leave The Labor Market Every Day

The numbers of expatriate workers who left the labor market increased again, as 10,880 expatriates had their work permits cancelled during the period from January 12 to February 10, according to the figures released by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM).  This means that 363 expatriates leave the labor market daily. In addition, 5988 expats had their residency permits forfeited as they were stranded outside the country.

PAM also mentioned that the number of work permits issued with the approval of the Council of Ministers increased by more than 21 percent, as the number of permit issuance transactions increased by 77 on February 10 to reach 439, compared with 362 permits in the seventh day of the same month.

In detail, 4024 expat work permits were cancelled in preparation for their final departure from the country from January 12 to February 10, while 611 work permits were cancelled due to the workers’ death, and 257 work permit visas were transferred to family visas.

In addition, the number of expatriate workers who renewed their work permits during the comparison period amounted to about 99142 permits, while about 30 work permit transfers to family visas took place, 54 work permits were transferred to the government sector, and 14 work permits were regarding a transfer from the government sector to the private sector, and 2 work permits were issued for Gulf workers.
