36 Stormers Yet To Surrender As Date To Challenge Verdict Nears
With the 60-day deadline of Sunday, Jan 28, 2018, is fast approaching to challenge the verdict of the Court of Appeals in the case of ‘Storming the National Assembly’ 36 people have yet to surrender to the Sentences Enforcement Department, reports Al- Qabas daily.
According to reliable sources, the Court of Cassation will reject their appeals later if they do not surrender within the stipulated time limit. The same sources said 30 of the 66 convicts have surrendered until date. Mohammad Al-Ruwais, who was sentenced in the case said on his Twitter account he was on his way from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait to surrender and was subsequently picked up at the Al-Khafji border post by the Saudi security authorities. Some sources said he will be referred to the Public Prosecution but the reasons remain unknown.
;The Al-Anba daily said sources close to former MPs Faisal Al- Muslim and Mubarak Al-Wa’alan said they will surrender just like what was done by former MP Musallam Al-Barrak following the court verdicts which has put them behind bars for storming the National Assembly. Informed sources said Al-Barrak is currently held at the Ward No. 4 of the Central Prison along with the rest of the MPs and others who are convicted in the case.
