30percent Drop In Expats Visiting At Public Clinics

04 October 2017 Kuwait

Public hospitals recorded a 30 percent drop in the number of expatriate patients since new charges for health services were introduced at public medical facilities starting from this month, Health Minister Dr Jamal Al-Harbi said.

Minister revealed the number of patients in emergency rooms decreased by 30 percent while those undergoing tests in laboratories decreased by more than 30 percent since the implementation of the new medical fees for expatriates.

He asked the directors of health districts to submit weekly statistics on expatriate patients who visit public hospitals and medical centers to be discussed along with comments on the new fees.

The ministry of health raised medical fees for expatriates from the beginning of October. In some cases, the increase is more than fivefold.
