28 Welfare Bodies Call For Impartial Probe In Death Of Kuwaiti National
Twenty eight public welfare societies have called for an independent and impartial investigation into the death of Kuwaiti Ahmed Al Dhafiri, reports Al-Anba daily.
The societies in a joint statement have expressed their deepest pain, resentment, and concern about the death of Al Dhafiri who died in police custody.
According to what has been published in the social media, the victim died as a result of torture, said the daily.
After looking at the Ministry of Interior statement in this regard, “we demand an independent and impartial investigation and punishment for those who are found responsible for this tragic incident,” said the statement issued by the societies. They denounced torture under any justification, and that it is a flagrant violation of the dignity of the person, violates the constitution and international conventions.
Speaking of this incident, they said, “We emphasize and demand transparency, take stringent measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated, to ensure social security and to preserve the security of citizens. On this occasion, the statement said, we recall some legal articles that take into account the rights of the accused and detainees:

■ The first item of Article (6) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, states: (The right to life is a right inherent in every person, and the law must protect this right, and no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life).
■ Article No. (7) of the same covenant states: (No one shall be subjected to torture, nor to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment).
