23 Sign For Speaker Dismissal – Don’t Touch Kuwaitis Pocket

A total of 23 MPs have signed the proposal of MP Badr Al-Mullah to dismiss the National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim for violating the Constitution when he voted in favor of suspending the grilling motions against His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled for almost one and a half year. Some parties consider the proposal a deal between Al-Mullah and the government, pointing out this will be a precedent for the next governments to dismiss the Assembly speaker with the support of only 17 MPs.

Meanwhile, MP Hamdan Al-Azmi said the announcement of the government that its agenda includes imposing tax, increasing fees and obtaining loans revealed the reason behind protecting HH the Prime Minister against grilling motions for one and a half year. He stressed that any measure aimed at touching the citizens’ pockets is outrightly rejected, asserting this is a red line and the last nail in the coffin of the government.

In another development, MP Fares Al-Otaibi forwarded queries to Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Essa Al-Salman about the decision of the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) to extend Contract No. 157 and 208 which were terminated in March 2019. He said the authority and a certain company signed these contracts to invest in South Amghara and Abdullah Port. He asked if PAI collected fees from the company for extending the contracts, losses incurred in case the authority did not collect fees, reason for not preventing the erring company from participating in tenders as per the relevant regulations, if the company completed the infrastructure works stipulated in the two contracts, and measures taken against the company in case it failed to complete the infrastructure works. Al-Otaibi also asked Minister of Education Muhammad Abdullatif Al-Fares why the female Kuwaiti graduates from the History Department in the Faculty of Arts have not been appointed as teachers, if the ministry contacted the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to allot job slots for these graduates, and the policy of the ministry in replacing expatriate teachers with Kuwaitis.

Moreover, Chairman of the Housing Affairs Committee MP Fayez Al-Jomhour praised Minister of State for Municipality, Housing Affairs and Urban Development Shaya Abdulrahman Al-Shaya for his willingness to cooperate in solving the problem in South Saad Al-Abdullah. He said the minister exerted tremendous efforts to remove obstacles to the implementation of this housing project, indicating he delivered good news to housing grant applicants — that the distribution of 23,000 plots will start soon.
