220,888 Kuwaiti Families In Country With Average Of Six Per Family
There are a total of 220,888 Kuwaiti families in the country with an average of six members per family, according to official data until January 1, 2018, reports Al-Nahar daily.
According to informed sources, the average income of a Kuwaiti family is KD 3,351, not counting the rent values of the houses owned by Kuwaitis. As per the sustainable development index of poverty by the World Bank, the daily per capita income of a citizen of Kuwait is $1.9, which means Kuwait exceeds the international poverty line.
Surveys have witnessed an increase in the average income and family expenditures from KD 1,964 per head monthly in 1999-2000 to KD 3,351 in 2013.
The sources affirmed Kuwait’s keenness to ensure social care and development of its services in all aspects in order to provide better life for citizens, strengthen social solidarity, and protect them from problems that threaten their stability and hinder their interaction in serving themselves and their society.
This comes at a time when the government announced its budget for the 2019/2020 fiscal year recently as per which there is an increase in the government subsidies by KD 230 million to reach KD 3.9 billion compared to KD 3 billion in the 2018/2019 budget.
This indicates the continuation of the government’s expenditure on subsidies at high levels. The sources revealed that the government does not intend to increase the subsidy for electricity and fuel in the coming phase.
