21 Held As Fierce Fight Breaks Out In Hospital

The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital at dawn yesterday witnessed a fierce fight among 26 people who allegedly used knives and medical scissors to inflict injuries, reports Al- Rai daily. The daily said 21 suspects have been arrested by the police who rushed to the hospital after receiving information about the fight.

Those arrested are being detained for interrogation. According to security sources two groups of young men were involved in the fight including Kuwaitis, Jordanians and Syrians in one of the areas of the Hawalli Governorate and one of them was injured and taken to the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital by his friends — two Kuwaitis, a Jordanian and three Syrians.

The main party to the dispute was a Kuwaiti and at the heated argument ensued at the hospital between both groups. A security source told the daily, the other group came to the hospital armed with knives.

They attacked and stabbed their opponents and two of them even grabbed medical scissors from the dressing room. In the midst of the fight, a Kuwaiti, born in 1994, fell to the ground in a pool of blood after being stabbed through a window. The attack broke his forearm and slashed his tendons.

His brother, born in 1996 was also injured, in addition to a Jordanian born in 1998, and four Syrians got various injuries and bruises on their bodies. Some of those who stormed the hospital then fl ed from the scene sensing the arrival of security patrols.

The source added, according to the statement given by the injured, those who led the attack on them managed to escape. A criminal case has been filed against them. Investigation is underway to arrest the main suspects. The Public Prosecutor has ordered tight security for those injured. They will be interrogated after they are dispatched from the hospital.
