2,000 Expatriate, Gulf Teachers Still Stranded Abroad
As the current academic year 2020/2021 approaches its end, about 2,000 teachers are still stranded in their countries waiting for a decision to either settle their dues or termination of their services. In this context, the Al-Jarida daily has learned from its sources that 1,400 stranded teachers are those who left the country during the mid-year vacation (expatriate and Gulf teachers) who were unable to begin work at the start of the second semester because the entry ports remained shut to the outside world with the exceptions of Kuwaitis to prevent the virus spreading in the country.
Vacation
Since last summer vacation 600 teachers are stranded bringing the total number of stranded teachers working in various educational specialties to 2,000. Ministry of Education sources said recently it had written to the Corona Emergency Committee and the Civil Service Commission to inquire about the mechanism to be followed about the 1,400 stranded teachers but has yet to receive a response about those stranded last summer vacation. The sources indicated the Finance Department was asked to stop their salaries as of January 7, saying the ministry was still waiting for the decisions from the concerned authorities about the issue of stranded teachers, and how to deal with them, especially since their number is big, and will affect the education process.
